Spire 73-DTLA

What: Spire 73

Where: Downtown Los Angeles

For: Ages 21+ at Night/All Ages During Day

This lounge is perched atop the tallest building in Los Angeles, providing patrons with breathtaking panoramic views of the city in a chic and modern atmosphere.  During our downtown LA Staycation, Ethan and I decided to take the elevator in the Wilshire Grand Tower 73 stories up to experience the sights from the tallest open-air bar in America.

Ethan and the skyline.  I had the view in the house, as both were worth looking at.

The Lounge

Getting up to the lounge requires two elevators.  We found ourselves wondering how fast the elevators were traveling if we went up 71 floors in under fifteen seconds.  Once you enter the open-air lounge, you’re greeted with a huge lounge area comprised of window seating and benches.  Fire pits break up spaces in the benches for chilly nights.  Modern chairs create small ‘booths’ for couples to enjoy.  There is plenty of seating for everyone.  Since this is an open-air bar it did get pretty chilly immediately after arriving.

The Drinks

Ethan and I only had two drinks here, which cost us a whopping $50.  This place ain’t cheap, people!  We didn’t have a problem with the price because of the amazing views of the city skyline.  The ability to sit in a window seat and sip a cocktail with serene music playing and a panoramic view was priceless.  They have an array of whisky to taste along with signature cocktails.

The Crowd

A lot of people that were at the lounge came solely for the view.  Some even visited for a few minutes to take pictures and made their way down.  Everyone was dressed nicely and behaved themselves accordingly.  Bar service took a while since there were quite a few people.  Everyone was ooh-ing and aah-ing at the skyline.  We spent about 45 minutes in total at the lounge.

Cost

As I mentioned earlier, Ethan and I ended up paying $50 for two drinks.  There are minimal food options available, but expect to spend around $30 for a small dish.  If you are not a hotel guest, the lounge will charge you an entry fee of $25 after 8:00pm.  Make sure to check the website for hours of operation.
